John Jay Campus has many highlights from all of our sports teams to the numerous extracurriculars we offer. But one of the most
significant highlights is our lunch policy. Here at PSC we offer many different options for students during lunch. If the weather is nice and you want some sun you can go out to the courtyard to play a number of spor
ts such as basketball, football, and soccer or to relax a little before your next class fulfilling whatever needs you have that day. Or if you want to feel the pump, you can in the weight room where there is a number of equipment offered to students to help them achieve their fitness goals. But the all time favorite throughout the campus is the Lunch Pass.
The lunch pass is offered to all High School students on the campus, allowing them to go outside of the building for lunch. With a large number of restaurants and bodegas in the area, it can get hard knowing exactly what you want to eat and what’s in your budget. But don’t w
orry because this article is here to guide you to a full stomach on a budget. After polling students at PSC about what they think the most affordable place in the area is, we were left with these two options: Tex-Mex located on 299 7th Ave. and La Casa Del Panuozzo located on 301 7th ave.
Tex-Mex or Happy Fresh Tortillas Grill is one of the more popular options to eat near campus. They offer a variety of food with over 30 menu items to choose from. But the most popular throughout Park Slope Collegiate has to be the grilled chicken and fries or fried chicken with fries. Now I know what you’re thinking: Out of 30+ menu items the most popular are chicken and fries? But for the price and a quality meal, you can’t beat it. They also let you personalize your meal to your liking, letting you put whatever sauces or toppings you
r heart may desire. Prices on these items can range from $3 to $10 dollars depending on what you buy.
But good food isn’t always healthy, these meals lack some nutritional value, consistin
g of a lot of processed ingredients, unhealthy fats, and high levels of sodium. The high oil content can also make the food harder to digest, potentially causing problems. But for the price and the amount of food, you receive it can be worth it. As long as you balance it with eating healthy some days of the week.
La Casa Del Panuozzo is another very popular option for students on campus.

They offer many different dishes, specializing in authentic brick-oven pizza and pastas. Students love this place so much because they offer a 2 for five deal. Meaning you can get any two slices of pizza for only five dollars. In Park Slope, that’s hard to beat. They use fresh ingredients often imported and the quality is unbeatable. While they do offer ready-to-go slices upon request, you can get your slice freshly made right in front of you for the same price as a premade one. While PSC students know them for their pizza they are also known for their pasta. Some may say they offer the best quality Italian cuisine in the area, without breaking the bank. Prices range from $5 to $10 depending on what you decide to buy.
In PSC these two restaurants have fueled our students for many years. While we do encourage them to eat healthy, knowing there are affordable options for them is important even if they are not the most nutritional.

I love tex mex

I like the 2 for $5 deal, too. Most deals like this are only for plain pizza. But you know I’ve never been to TexMex? I think it’s self-preservation.

I will definitely be trying out La Casa Del Panuozzo – great recommendation!
