The Jaguar of the Month, or “Jag of the Month,” as they’re better known, is an athlete currently in season who stands out among all other athletes competing at that time. In order to stand out and be in the race for Jag of the Month the athletes must be dominant and break records.
Athletic director and coach Brian Friedman has coaches nominate students from their teams worthy of the honor. From that list, all of the coaches cast their votes on the winners. Friedman has the final say. If the athlete has broken records, it will outweigh the other athletes in the race. The different schools celebrate those athletes in different ways, such as showcasing a poster with their sport. These posters can be found in the hallway on the way to scanning. The Jaguar of the month is a great way for athletes to be promoted and build their image flexing their abilities to break records and be a dominant Jaguar. .
A few past Jaguar of the months include Christian Francis of the boys varsity baseball team, Dreshawn Peek of the boys varsity football team, and Tillie Quinn of the girls varsity cross country team. All these student athletes have either broken records resetting the boundaries of what’s possible or had been possible. It’s a feat in its own right to break records but some athletes put on such a dominant performance in the month it’s almost impossible to recognize them as a Jaguar of the month.
