On Friday, September 12, John Jay Campus hosted its annual Jaguar Day, highlighting the sports on campus and giving students the opportunity to connect with coaches and other athletes.
This year Jaguar Day had a huge turnout of about 300 students! The mood in the auditorium was very energetic, and everyone was very engaged in what was happening
Jaguar Day is a yearly event that is held on campus at the beginning of every school year. The main reason that jaguar day is held is for new students to learn more about the sports that John Jay campus offers, and to learn more about sports that they may be interested in.
In addition to meeting other athletes, students have a chance to meet coaches for a sport that they are interested in.
Jaguar Day is also a great way for new students who may be trying out for a sport and to connect with students who are already on a team. Jaguar Day also showcases the sports culture on campus to new students.
Athletic Director Brian Friedman (pictured on the right) introduced each sport. These sports include:
Baseball (JV and varsity)
Basketball (boys and girls JV and varsity)
Softball (JV and varsity)

Cross country (boys and girls)
Indoor track and field (boys and girls)
Volleyball (boys and girls JV and varsity)
Ping pong (boys and girls)
Fencing (boys and girls)
Swimming (boys and girls)
Girls flag football
Football (JV and varsity)
Outdoor track and field (boys and girls)
Cheer (co-ed)
Stunt (co-ed)
Soccer (boys and girls,JV and varsity)
Double-dutch
After introducing each coach (pictured below), athletic director Brian Friedman gave directions as to where each coach would be, so that everyone could meet the coaches of the sport that they were interested in. Once split up into groups, each coach went over when and where tryouts would be, what to bring and what to wear, as well as what to expect at the tryouts.

For any students looking to try out for a sport, You MUST have a PSAL medical form filled out and stamped by a doctor, as well as a parent consent form for that sport. The PSAL medical form is valid for one year after you get it stamped. You need a new parent consent form for every sport, every year. A lot of sports at school have a JV team as well as varsity. There are opportunities for anyone looking to play a sport.
Even if you don’t make a team, you can still be a manager for that team.
Overall, Jaguar Day this year was very informative and helpful for anyone looking to be involved with the sports on campus. Good luck to anyone looking to try out!

You forgot to include double dutch which is a spring sport. Anyone interested in learning to jump double dutch should see Ms. Robinson in room 440.
