The season started off with a win! The varsity Girls Volleyball team took down Midwood High School on Thursday, September 18, kicking off the year with energy and pride.
The John Jay girls won with a score of 25-21. During every round, each player did an amazing job serving with great power and strength.

When both teams were neck and neck, the crowd cheered on the Jaguars motivating them to score a point.
Player 13 Lexi Moore serving.
Since mid-August, the girls had been practicing every day after school, running drills, and building their confidence. A tough scrimmage against Xaverian, a private school in Bay Ridge, helped them learn what to work on.
Coach Salak said, “They gained many strengths and were able to focus on where they needed to improve.”
All of that practice showed in the opener. The girls came out strong, turned nerves into confidence, and played as one. With powerful serves, quick sets, and strong defense, they kept Midwood on their heels until the very last point.
Coach Salak gave Lexi Moore a special shoutout after the match, calling her “the best in the state.” With their leadership — and the whole team’s determination — the season couldn’t have started any better.
The girls are now 1–0 and ready to keep the momentum going. Go Jaguars!
