The 2025 NYC mayoral election is already underway and results are just right around the corner. As tensions rise questions are raised about who will be declared victor. Zohran Mamdani (Democrat) is a favorite in polls right now as a new face to NYC. Mr. Mamdani comes with a lot of promises, such as affordable housing, government-sponsored groceries, free buses, taxing the 1% , making the MTA safer, and more. Zohran Mamdani has a lot he hopes to bring to NYC but the question is if he is too young and inexperienced. Looking over former Governor Andrew Cuomo (Democrat) is a close 2nd with some projections favoring him based on his experiences as governor for 10 years . 

The 3rd and final candidate, Curtis Sliwa (Republican), who is in last place in projected polls, is not the ultimate loser. Sliwa has made a name for himself, if he did not already have one. He has been the stage and showing this new generation of young voters what he stands for and his mission. Though Sliwa has had a tremendous impact on NYC throughout the years he’s not going to be NYC’s mayor. Sliwa is a recurring candidate he has ran for NYC mayor twice. Sliwa is a notable figure in NYC not because of his politics but his activity in the city to attempt to make it safer, by starting the Guardian Angels, a group of people who go around NYC with red berets on look to help people in trouble and make NYC a safer place. Along with this, Sliwa owns 13 cats and has infamously survived 5 gunshots in the back of a yellow cab by John Gotti and the Gambino brothers.

So who is the next mayor of NYC? The other two candidates Andrew Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani have had some passionate moments on stage exchanging shots at each other as respectful politicians. Some NYC voters say that giving a young politician like Mr. Mamdani might be beneficial and we should experiment. Others believe giving a young politician a whole city filled with issues is no task built for them, and we need an experienced politician such as our former governor Andrew Cuomo. 

New York is waiting for their next Mayor and the spotlight is empty and the stage is set for who will be the next Mayor of NYC in this dramatic election .
