The PSC Scholar had a wonderful opportunity in May to interview District 39 Council Member Shahana Hanif. Hanif represents parts of Kensington, Borough Park, Windsor Terrace, Park Slope, Gowanus, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, and the Columbia Waterfront.
The interview consisted of three different segments. The first two segments were a questionnaire, where reporters Khloe Jeanbart, Kaydin Clarke-Power, and Bishop McGriff asked a series of serious and lighthearted questions. The serious questions focused more on political topics and Hanif’s goals in office. When asked to define school safety, Hanif responded, “I think we can first start with being free of metal detectors, and focusing more on peer mediating, and helping them understand why what they did was hurtful or wrong.” To hear more about Council Member Shahana Hanif and her goals as district 39’s very own, watch the interview below.
The third segment gives further insight into Hanif’s young, bright persona, as interviewer Enzo Furlani asks more lighthearted questions focused on getting to know the Council Member outside of the office.
